“Your SEO is Only as Good as Your Content”

A marketer with any kind of chops will tell you how important search engine optimization (SEO) is for your website. After all, it’s what makes your website “known” to Google Almighty.

Technically speaking, it’s not that hard to incorporate best optimization practices. Although there are an enormous amount of moving parts involved, it’s really not too complicated. With some practice, you can get the hang of it. Honestly, the hardest part about SEO is keeping up with the latest strategies, as they are always evolving.

So what’s the big deal? Why is it so hard to have a successful website?

The big deal is that even if your SEO is done to perfection if your content isn’t meaningful and appropriate for your target audience, none of it matters. It’s comparable to the mindset of having and executing a perfect marketing campaign, but if the product itself is garbage, it still won’t work. Poor content can be indicated by a very high bounce rate and a low amount of time spent on a particular page.

There are so many website failures due to poor content. It takes a lot of brainpower and creativity to produce quality content. It takes an incredible amount of discipline to keep your content fresh. Good content should be purposeful. That purpose can be anything from entertaining to teaching to inspiring conversations, and much more. The main thing is that there has to be a point to it.

The two main objections I hear as reasons for having lackluster content are lack of time or lack of skill.

Luckily, both of these challenges can be overcome. In terms of not having time, there’s no magic trick. You simply have to make the time. But I will say the better you become at producing content, the less time you’ll need to invest in doing so. The second objection also doesn’t come with a shortcut or trick. The only way to get good at something (anything), is through practice.

What I have discovered is that the more time someone practices developing content, the better they get, the more fun they have. The increase in fun often leads to an increase in motivation to create more.

My recommendation? Make some time to practice - and have a little fun. Your website rankings will thank you.

Dana Podgurski

Hi everyone! I'm Dana Podgurski!

I'm a foot in the mouth, tongue in cheek, head in the clouds, and heart on the sleeve kind of gal. I live for new experiences, but am a total sucker for nostalgia at the same time. I'm tough as nails, but am a complete softie for all things kids and animal-related. I fly by the seat of my pants, and live for adventure. But I firmly believe that adventure is a mindset that one's self determines.

For work, I am a marketer through and through. Bringing brands to life, and content marketing are passions of mine. Many would consider what I do as nerdy, but I seriously dig it. I have been doing marketing contract work for years, and appreciate the variety it brings, and the relationships I've developed with my clients. If you're interested in a partnership, click here.

For fun, I love to create - writing/blogging, photography, and painting are my main three mediums of doing so. Feeling good and healthy is also high on my list, as it really lends itself to making everything more enjoyable. So I maintain a very active lifestyle, eat pretty healthy, and am outdoors as much as I can be. And if my blog didn't make it abundantly clear, I absolutely LOVE to travel (near and far) and go on adventures. I spend any extra money I have on tickets and feel so fortunate to have been to several amazing destinations both domestically and internationally. There's nothing more fulfilling than coming home from a trip and adding a been-there-pin to my map.

Cheers!

Dana
