Proving that Social Media Works
It’s pretty mind-boggling that there are still so many people in leadership roles today that are clueless regarding social media. “I don’t get it.” “I don’t have Facebook.” “What’s a TikTok?” Although it has gotten easier to explain the value of social media over the last several years, it can still be tricky with some people.
As a marketer, the key is to find out what those people care about and explain how social media can help them achieve their goals. One thing that is typically easily understood is business metrics. Thankfully, social media platforms make it pretty simple for you to report to your bosses that the juice is worth the squeeze.
A strategy that has worked for me before is creating a monthly report. The monthly report provides a high level (make sure you don’t get too micro, upper management doesn’t have the time or the care to get in the details) performance snapshot. You can do this by listing out your social media channels, followed by the percentage of growth from the previous month and the total number of the given metric.
Hopefully, this tactic is as helpful for you as it has been for me!
