Other Books of 2015
I would rank this book 4/5. Although it's far from a snooze, it's also not a constant page turner - it's just not that kind of story. The plot begins with a 13 year old boy named Theo surviving a terrorist attack, but his mother wasn't as lucky. From there the book navigates through Theo's less-than-picture-perfect-life as he meets with people through the attack, connects with his scummy father, steals drugs, etc. I didn't know what to expect when I got this book, but I didn't expect the story I got. But I really enjoyed the book, and could see this being turned into a great movie (if it hasn't already).
Ugh. 1.5/5. I felt like I had to read about 380 pages for anything to happen. The end of the book was clever and that's the only reason I give it anything. So if you can muscle through reading 380 pages of descriptive literature (no action), you might like it. But I was underwhelmed and felt relieved to have finished it.
5/5. Loved this book! It takes place during the Holocaust (my favorite time period to read about as far as historical fiction goes). I don't want to give anything away, but I appreciated the style of how this book was written. It's an easy read, and a little dark - as most books covering that period are. But I highly recommend it!
